get in tune with my life
WARNING: very long post.
yup, just came back from guides camp. LOADs of fun this year. so here it goes...
wed first day of advance party. went with the captain, delicia, and stacey to collect the canvas tent from GMSS, the captain's husband's school where he is in charge of the boy's brigade there. they didn't know where they put the pegs, arrgh!! horrible maintainence. even the very important cylinder that connected the center pole with the horizontal pole was missing!! so we had to improvise to do square lashing and we ordered pegs. the captain had a crazy idea. she tried to use lazer masts (sailing vertical pole used to hold the sail) the thing was tall man. but the thing kept slipping so we still had to use the original poles with one of the long spars. a lot of improvisation was done. more long spars came in for the construction of the playground. safari beds came in and we fixed them up and placed them in the canvas tent soon after. the bonding was great. sadly, me mom didn't allow me to stay over :(
our pretty canvas tent!!!
the safari beds in the canvas tent.
thurs second day of advance party. more shopping with mrs goh, mrs chua, intan and meiqing. we walked in and out of the school like countless times. we set up the rest of the playground. it was super cool!!! we had two swings and a rope ladder which was like twice my height. we also made a see-saw and another swing which was not very stable due to the lack of strong spars. how cool can gadgets get?!

the actual day of camp. our hard work and many days of planning has finally materiallized. my patrol was combined with Kingfisher, in total 6 peeps :) started with colours in the morning. there were three brownies that joined us namely rebecca, emily and jill. my camp patrol took a tent and started to pitch at our spot to find a lot of things missing: the poles, the guidelines and the dollies! so some went to do gadgets first and some waited and erin went to get the stuff. we pitched it really fast and went on to the gadgets. belle and me did the shoe rack while meiying did the mini rope ladder and the rest did the clothes hanger. we finished really early so we decided to name our group. got inspiration from erin's t-shirt and came up with TWIGGs the short form of The Wonderfully Incredible Girl Guides. haha. played the Manito (secret friend) game. got cheryl ann.
was raining in the afternoon so we did craft. was doing dream catcher whole time. lefty abbit said that mua dream catchers are good enough to be sold!!! yay, finally perfected it.
campfire that night. was sooooo fun. we did the TIRO song, meaning Togetherness, Independence,Respect and Organiztion. we all had to sit on each other. haha. cooking with meiying afterwards. cooked fish, potato, sweet potato, corn and BANNANA WITH MARSHMALLOW CHOLOLATE. they forgot to put the marshmallows so it was just the chololate, was still nice anyway. so me and meying invented something that was SRUMPTIOUS!! we dumped the marshmallows inside one mess tin and added a lot of chocolate sauce and melted it. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM....went ot bathe in the bathing tent with my patrol. yup, we change into swimming costumes and we bathe in that while the seniors jet us. the water was soo cold. decided to write sth stupid to my manito. hahaha. wasn't in a right state of mind to write anyway, perfect brain condition to write crap. slept in the canvas tent that night on the safari beds. they are so comfy!! unlike sleeping in the other tent that we pitched, it had no smell, was not very stuffy. i almost felt like i was in my bed!
our shoe rack with our shoes!!
our clothes hanger with our stuff
our group name.
one of my nicer dream catchers. ain't they pretty?
sat
in colour party. was really troublesome as we had to change into uniform before we can raise/ lower the world flag. the cooking day. we had inspection of tents first. then we prepared the bell chicken and cooked some other veg and noodles and newspaper fish! yes, fish cooked in newspaper. it's actually nice. they got leftover marshmallows so we did the same thing that we did in the campfire. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM... our bell chicken turned out cooked. it looked really nice (and it did taste nice too)did more craft later in the afternoon. thought a few people dream catchers. mua chee making session was going on concurrently. went there to eat some mua chee only to discover that the mua chee was very salty. not long after, the whole company was washing their mouths out! melody put in salt instead of sugar!!!!! hahahahahaha!!!!!!!
played 'finding the family' at the courtyard. was so fun!!! my patrol was a fish so we were going blurb blurb.. the leaders are so naughty, they confused some of us. haha. stayed up until 2am to help tingxin with the praise and worship songs for tmr's sunday service. she wanted me to play keyboard with her guitar, oh well. tried to help felly with the sharing of christianity. think and think, like what in the bible has somthing to do with creativity? came out with the real meaning of christmas and how Man's creativity twisted it to become a festival of mistletoes, presents and other stuff. couldn't find anything else. oh well.
the srumptious sinfully heavenly stuff (how oxymoronic)
our bell chicken
newspaper fish
nooooodles!
my fried veggie!
the wonderful stuff finished first.
sun
last day of camp for most but not me. sunday morning went to the chapel early to find that there is no keyboard. oh well. tingxin is on her own now. the praise and worship went ok. we sang every move i make, did you feel the mountains tremble, above all and heart of worship. ting xin pulling pulled it off overnight! you go girl!! we should all jam one day. followed by tent striking and untying of gadgets. i was oiling pegs like crazy! haha. oily hands! went around to take pics with people, soon after perfecting self taking (sadly can't post my self taken pics here, can't show pics of myself here) was really tired after all that. went home and immediately hit the bathroom followed by unpacking and MY BED!!!z Z Z Z Z...
mon
still had to wake up early for POST CAMP. rather its like just clearing up. powdering tents= powedery hair, powdery feet, powdery hands. striked the canvas tent, cleaned safari beds. then there was a change of plan. tmr the leaders are going to the old folks home in woodlands for some CIP for our Puan Noor Aisah award thingy. in the meantime, sangee, fern, and me was being really random. we composed a new song in the tune and sequence of 'on the first day of christmas' carol. here it is from number 12.
on the 12th day of camp my guider gave to me,
12 rounds of scolding
11 dreamcatchers
10 guides a singing
9 candle craft
8 solid fuels
7 cups of milo
6 gadget poles
5 toe weavings!
4 balls of twine
3 long spars
2 canvas tents
and a playground of tyres just for me!
haha, how random.
today
cabbed to the old folks home in woodlands. was stationed at the small coffee shop with intan to help the stall holder. he didn't need help so we ended up playing table soccer with this pro old man who beat both of us 66:7 arggh! played for abt 2 hours and the old man was not even tired! later helped in the laundry with sewing. went sewing sewing sewing sewing sewing sewing and more sewing until the end of the day.
woke up to a morning with my mum screaming,' rachel, ure in the papers today!'.
KC's team is in the background of that pic. ok, whoever wrote this article made this casual remark wrong! i merely said that youths like me won't read newsletters that dun have fun bits in it and she/he put it in the general term of 'people'. like i know some people who can read anything, whether it is interesting or not. i think she/he paraphrased it a lil off.
yup, u guessed it, an article about yesterday's event at SPH, the competition training. (ref yesterday's entry)
breakfast was followed by numerous SMSs which were regarding this article, oh well. my handphone bills will definetly shoot up this month.
will not be bloggin for a week 'cause of guides camp. byebye :)
guides as usual on sat. got three more badges on my guides uniform :) yay! unfortunately the captain didn't allow me to get my photographer's badge. grr... must find out how positives are formed. anyway, i got the entertainer's badge (above), artist badge and my bronze. did the badgework with the juniors :) later in the evening went to blk 525 for the rehersals of my church youth christmas concert. so happen to meet leroy on the bus, so we went there as he dun know the place. the rehersals were fun!!! owen and stephanie was training us and we did some warm ups, like drama class (at that time where i was in o lvl drama elect for the first half of the year until i quit as i wan to take triple science) we were told to do character analysis based on the lines (literature!!!:D). really fun.
sunday, went to church early to meet owen 'cause can't make it this sat for the rehersal. i was repeating the lines over and over again until i got the right feeling and stuff like that. i really cannot act very well, let alone acting proud, i think i made owen a bit pissed off as i couldn't get it until one hour had gone by and it was only five lines. oh well, got to learn, learn and loads of stuff.
today, the straits times national schools newspaper competition training session for the whole day. learnt to use MS publisher even though half the time i was a bit blur (i'm bad at IT, let alone designing) layouts, catchy headlines (i.e: this house believes that debates are a waste of time?!), colour schemes, short cuts, resizing pics and stuff like that. really cool anyway. we did a lil layout dummy with the publisher and presented it. there was this ACS barker guy was so pround lah, 'i have a witness that is to work by my self' whats the point telling everyone in the room about ure witness eh? like hello, watch that tone of voice.
pictures soon... my cam is out of batt so need to charge. coming tmr. tata :)
this is probably one of the times where i have a camera with me when i want to take somthing. also one of the better pics that i take. i like the pretty tonal colours of the sunset from my block.
yes, my camera is finally repaired. more pics coming soon in the future i guess :)
training the sec ones (or should i say sec 2s?)for the upcoming camp todae. more gadgets and tent pitching and striking in the hot sun. sarah kelly is SOOOO GOOD AT GADGETS (you might see some sarcasm here) overall everybody was ok... wait till the REAL camp comes... they will get the taste of a wet, muddy field; insects; frogs (and possibly snakes and monitor lizards this year) ; jetting of cold midnight water from the seniors in the bathing tent ; sabotages in mud fights; BANANA WITH CHOCOLATE AND MARSHMALLOWS; cooking and more cooking; craft; possible crazyness and insomia.
eng project yesterdaywas ok... lots of laughing and stuff... nothing much though. went straight off to chinese tuition after that to do 2 very long and tedious gong han (formal letter writing).arrgh. i hate chinese buti have to force myself to love it or else i cannot survive the o's chinese paper. crap.
i can't believe i was selected for the youth service drama thing. like i can't even act properly, i laugh at the sound of my voice of the made up sentences of the script and how stupid i sound. goodness, i can't even sing properly. never mind. i'm only acting as a secetary when i dun know how to act like one. oh well... more training in dramatising for me.
went to sch at 7.30am to go for camp shopping with mrs chua, mrs goh, intan and meiqing. checked up the wet market for halal chiken and fresh fish fillet but couldn't get any, so we went to NTUC to buy the stuff. bought THREE FULL TROLLEYS of food. we were running around the place looking for stuff on the super long shopping list. one guy saw us and said that we had a big family (!). when it came to the casher, it was chaos. intan, mrs chua and mrs goh was loading the stuff onto the casher, meiqing and i was loading the stuff into the trolleys to be loaded into the boot of the taxi. then we all sweezed into the taxi and headed for KC. unloaded the stuff in record breaking time (or so i thought) packed stuff in the fridge and the guides room.
went to kcp again to collect the forms from the brownies. while mrs lim went to search for the forms, we took care of a p3 class, which was soo cute + adorable = super duper cute and adorable. how i wish i was like that all over again. it was such a stress free time then. oh well, time cannot be reversed, nor can we correct the mistakes we had in the past. how sad.
flyer distribution was ok, covered some good ground. more excercise for me!! and i get paid. i really need to get some workout these days.
met up with heda, sang, feli, and other guides to discuss what we were going to do for the 'playground' plan The captain has for the sec one orientation next year. yups, we're going to do it during camp. many ideas, we had, only to find the limitations of gadgets using big spars and tyres. cannot make quite a few things like slides.
after that went back to KCP with intan and meiqing to see the building. yups, their going to renovate the whole thing. going to miss it. good (and bad) old memories resurfaced as we walked around the building. met several teachers and met ms hou who was very very busy so didn't manage to have a chat with her. she didn't even give me her phone number :( oh well.
camp shopping with intan, meiqing and few other guides and mrs chua tmr... toodles :)
went to sch at 7.15 in the morning with a bad throat. urgh, how to sing like that? i was croacking away during the practice before the actual auditions. sung horribly outdated songs like beautiful dreamer, oh how lovely, million stars, loy kratong etc. which is so out of my style of pop and rock. ARIEL TAY SOK EE DIDN'T COME. how could you abandon me like that? u told me that you'd be coming to suffer the "T"s torture and nonsense. *tsk* *tsk* oh whatever, its over already.
after that went to lower pierce resevoir for abt an hour walk on the trail. so happen to have my cam with me, took several pics, but unfortunately the battery was dead in abt 30 minutes :(. i so want a new cam. SLRs: cool. buy me one with zoom lens for chrismas present yes? (jking). saw a lot of monkeys and 2 squirrels and a lot of plants. was a very nice weather for walking.
me dad picked me up then went to drop off my mum's and jie marina's presents for the woman's encounter (shhh...) at paramount hotel. felt very weird as when i stepped into the hotel, people were staring at my uniform as though saying 'what's this girl guide doing here?'
bought my science books that cost $100 over. ouch. must study hard next year. NOMORE SLACKING.
power encounter was great. watched the crossing again, tearing as i saw the part of the nailing of jesus' hands on the cross. its like ouch! you can feel the pain when you watch it. the Holy Spirit really worked in the sessions and the ministry time. tearing of the stonghold list was the best part. after we repented of our sins, we tore up the list as a significance that our sins were forgiven, just like that. everyone of us encountered God during the ministry time. at ten plus went down to the canteen to hang around the studying group of jasmine, karen, brian and dione as i can't sleep. picked up a little bit of vectors from yvonne when she was teaching dione vectors, just had nothing better to do. slept at 12am plus. the blankets they gave us was so thin i couldn't sleep properly, only to wake up next day with a running nose. the whole thing rocks anyway.
publications on monday. *sniff* it was the last time mdm Gammar was having pub meeting with us so she treated us to macs (so nice). we were like 'mdm gammar, DON'T GO. THE PUBLICATIONS NEED YOU. who's going to be that bubbly teacher who takes all our crap? rather, who's going to take over you when ure gone?' i think that last question is still a big question mark. will it be a teacher we love, hate or even a new teacher?
[It's said that sometimes moving on when the rest of your life starts with goodbye.]
polishing was so painstaking. 'small circles, my ma would say' ah well, it makes things look better.the only thing that i polished nicely was my precious lil piano. has been a long time since i actually polished the whole thing including the keys (to think that my bro's guitar polish actually worked!) tedious but worth it. i only notice how dirty it was when i looked at the cloth that i used to polish it. yay! nice clean piano! :)
went to do my theory homework. grade 6 theory i one big leap from grade 5 theory man, especially the big questions. they give u a open score, piano score, voice score or a combination and ask you on keys and modulations; ornaments; recognition of chords; italian, french (mabel, HELP!), and german terms; phrasing, expression, dynamics and articulation marks; identifying a likely composer or to suggest a title for the score(s); instrumentaion and orchestration; form and musical genre and writing a short commentary *pants*. these stuff are very chim ( i think u know already). the composing is worse. you have to do a melodic composition of about 16 bars (that's long and hard) for an orchestral instrument (where i don't play any of them). then you must make it look chim by modulating and all. can mati! i'm going to take the exam next year around november, i dun know whether i can make it 'cause there are many compsers that i need to know, which means listening to their works more often. arggh! classical music is so not my kind (despite the fact that i play it on the piano everyday)
collecting of streaming results and orchid hybrinization tomorrow. please pray for me and the rest of the sec 2's that you know in KC :)
just came back from the orchid hybridnization advanced course.
today's 3 hour session is fun. this time it was the REAL cloning. we each took a pseudobulb (which is a small shoot that is the side branch growth of a orchid) and ringed it (making it look like sping onions), washing it with 5% of bleach solution with Tween 20 (a plant detergent) and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake for 30 minutes! then transfer to the 10% bleach solution and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake and shake for 10 minutes then go to the laminar flow ( a lil bench with a blower that fiters out dirty air and blows out clean air so as to make sterile contditions) to transfer it to a bottle of sterile water and have a brief shake and transfer to another bottle of sterile water to make sure to get rid of the bleach and Tween 20.
ok... the fun part is exposing the buds and excising them (another words dig them out) and putting them in the vacin and went liquid media to encourage the growth of new cells around the buds where each cell will grow into one plant! oh the advantages of technology!
[technology is one thing, but it can never beat God!]
I'm staring out into the night,
Trying to hide the pain.
I'm going to the place where love
And feeling good don't ever cost a thing.
And the pain you feel's a different kind of pain.
Well I'm going home,
Back to the place where I belong,
And where your love has always been enough for me.
I'm not running from.
No, I think you got me all wrong.
I don't regret this life I chose for me.
But these places and these faces are getting old,
So I'm going home.
Well I'm going home.
The miles are getting longer, it seems,
The closer I get to you.
I've not always been the best man or friend for you.
But your love, it makes true.
And I don't know why.
You always seem to give me another try.
Be careful what you wish for,
'Cause you just might get it all.
You just might get it all,
And then some you don't want.
Be careful what you wish for,
'Cause you just might get it all.
You just might get it all, yeah.
* bible verse of the week *
Hebrews 12:11
No discipline seems pleasent at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.
