woohoo!! back again finally!! loads had been happening for the past few months.. i shall generally generalize.
preparation of the ireland camp continues. went shopping for the craft items on the 28th june that was to be sold to the people there. bought henna, bangles, bindis, paper balls, five stones, chaptehs. i'm a lil better in the dance we're supposed to do. we, unfortunately, have to survive 13 days in ireland with the stuff we brought in HAVERSACKS. yes, no trolley bags.
left on the 5th jul with some of my company's guides sending the 5 of us guides from my school off. my dear seniors are as crazy as ever :D the 10 hour flight was tiring with an additional 2 hours of local flight. ireland is PRETTY!!! it was also super cold: 10-13 deg in the day, sunny; 5-8 deg at night and when it is raining(which was most of the time). visited navan town before the camp and stayed overnight at millrace lodge, a lovely place.
went to tatterstalls for the camp. i've never seend such a huge field in my life!abt 4 hec? was in camp asgard, subcamp midguard. 1st day was a lil weird 'cause there are caucasions everywhere and we were the only few asians. the irish guides were really nice and made quite a few friends. as i was talking to several of the irish guides, there were the lil misconceptions/ stereotypes abt Singapore and us as representitives of GGS. some were pretty amusing too.
1)Singapore had the four seasons
2)Singapore is in China! (hahahahahaha)
3)Our hair is not real. they are wigs.
with that clarified, the camp was quite fun. had a go with african percussion, bounce world, trips to trim castle etc around meath co. and dublin, campfires. the international night performance didn't turn out as bad as i expected. at least i managed to remember all the dance steps by then. i couldn't believe that they loved it! the bad thing is that there was no bathing facilities in the camp site and we had to go to some swimming centre to bathe there. futhermore, it was only 2 times in 7 days! too cold to sweat i guess that's their reason. anyway, i dunno why, but i instinctively picked up a bit of their accent. when the camp ended, it was pretty sad:( got the contacts of most of the guides anyway:)
stayed in dublin for one day and a night. shopped quite a bit of stuff. boy i'll miss the food there. went to london for 3 days 2 nights. went to 2 museums, buckingham palace where we saw the changing of guards, oxford street, camden town(goth place), tower of london where we saw the crown jewels(*bling*) sadly, no cameras allowed. then another 10 hr flight back to S'pore. slept for the first 4 hrs and forced myself to keep awake by eating the 75%cocoa dark chocolateand watching 4 movies to prevent jet lag 'cause i gotta go to school the next day. attempt sucessful:)
after going there, i can appreciate what we have in s'pore 'cause u can take a hot bath and not coming out of the bathroom shivering like crazy. u also dun need to get back to your home before sundown and keep buying bottled water and have budget food (macs cost 15 bucks for a quater pounder and a small coke).
NDP training is fun, crazy as it may seem. the back area of the contingent was deemed the noisy group. me being the left marker was fun. i nearly slept during one of the NE shows. oh, and the NE shows were funny! when the 1st of the 21 gun salute was shot, i could hear screams from the audience. every subsequent shot was followed by high pitched screams from the audience. the rest of the CRs were ok, the audience always laughed when the arrival of the ministers was simulated. yes, one guy just came out with a playcard that wrote 'MP' and things like that. me family got tickets to watch one of the CRs :)
climbed gulong lambak with the guides in my company:) 70 degree gradient was fun:)climbed to one of the peaks at 510m above sea level. i dun mind going again:)
wasn't there at east division competition day 'cause of NDP. but, with God's grace, we won bronze in poster, silver in mini stucture and gold in song writing:) didn't see the gold coming as the lyrics there were just random stanzas of rhyming words i wrote about the theme which was fantasy. ching probably worked the music out :) good work done by the other teams too:D
sep's full of birthdays, including mine:) celebrated with my family at sushi tei. got my birthday presents:D yougurt, my fav binging partner(good idea!) from my bro; hoop earrings from meryl and a cake from my small group.
my piano exam was also in sep. the examinger was a lady and i was real nervous then. but when i went into the room, i suddenly became quite calm (thanks God:D) my pieces and scaleswere ok, but she gave me the more difficult sight reading so that was crap. but on me dad's birthday, the results was in. he opened it as i couldn't bear to see...only to discover a few seconds later that i got distinction!!! praise ye the Lord:D got full marks for my jazz piece(surprise, surprise)
sep also means start of EOY. that sucks. stay home muggin most of the time.by oct, was very sian already. but when it ended it was worth it:) will only have a short break and sturctured lessons will start at he end of oct. end of EOYs means results too. have done reasonably well. some improvement and deprovement. top for chem and bio in the level:D really thank God for this set of results.here it is:
eng-A2
chinese-C5
e math-A1
a math- C5:P
c humans- C5
lit-B4
bio,chem, phy- A1
thats not the end though... still got 'o's. arggh 'o's! boy i'm starting to feel old now.
went ice skating with some of my school friends after eng oral. andrea and avina knows how to skate now *claps* we'll go some other time again with more people i guess.
guides camp is coming up and i'm in camp comm. the gmss guides are camping with us this year. i hope it will be fun. the whole thing's planned and we just need to carry it out. its sad we're not making the entire playground this year. we'll be doing swings
power encounter was great. most of us were touched by God:) the bonding was great too. ashley and i found out that both of us had good synergy in guitar. we should play together one day again no? sharing my testimony was crappy. all the 25 + pairs of eyes were staring at me which was the stimulus for my nervous reflex(or so i called it). couldn't concentrate on what i was saying. arggh... should have taken off my glasses so i only see blurry faces. class presentaion can just because not even half the class is really paying attention, 20 pairs of eyes is my limit. playing keyboard for ministry was ok, except i tend to go by memory and there is not enough time to discard some chord progessions of the previous song and mistakes come in. u have a long way to go rachel.
will update soon... gotta go cell.. bb!
